To be a…Father.!

It was the most comfortable bed for me,
When he held me in his strong arms for the first time.

It was the most amusing gallop I could ever have,
When he carried me onto his back for the first time.

It was the most solicitous amble I could ever go on,
When he clutched my index finger for the first time.

It was the most delightful day of my life,
When he took me to my school for the first time.

Today, I can see him as the most delighted person,
When he’s watching me walk through the crowd.

I can feel that solace in his heart,
When he is seeing me achieve that award.

I can see his chest go wide in proud,
When he’s hearing that applaud he knew I’ll earn.

  1. Lovely poem. It gets this dad’s seal of approval. If my daughter ever writes me a poem like this, I’d be very happy. 🙂 Nice you’re so close.

With the line “I can see his chest go wide in proud”, I think it should be “I can see his chest go wide in pride”. Would run even smoother then anyway. Sorry…studied Imaginative Writing at university and struggle to turn the constructive criticism off. I will try harder to not point anything out if it bothers you…

    1. Who else could give a better like to this poem than a father. I am sure she’ll do that in coming years. Thank you. 🙂
Oh, no not at all. I am completely open to these kind of criticism, they are gonna help me grow more in my work. You must be a great critic then and please don’t stop doing that, it’s never going to bother me. 🙂

      1. I look forward to it. 🙂 And good to know about you being open to constructive criticism. Some people are more delicate than others when it comes to constructive criticism, so like to ask.

Equally if you see some metaphors in my work that make no sense to you or a particularly sloppy line, please do feel free to let me know. Thanks. 🙂
